Storage Solutions
Thinking ‘inside the box’. Creative solutions for textile care.
A Case That Makes the Cut
What’s the point?
Not all objects are suitable for standard methods of storage. Bespoke storage is an effective, long-term solution to safeguard objects for the future.
This Kukri knife was gifted to our client’s family by a Royal Air Force transport pilot upon his return from Burma in 1945. After years of poor storage, our client wanted to find a solution to store the knife effectively whilst still being able to view it. A bespoke storage box was designed to cradle the knife, with an easily removal lid for viewing access, which will protect the knife from light and physical abrasions.
Lasting for Light-Years
Saving space with systematic folds
A much loved Zandra Rhodes dress made from fine silk crepe and hand-printed with the Starwarz pattern designed by Rhodes in 1977 required custom storage. Beaded embellishments made the dress too delicate to hang and space limitations meant the dress could not be stored flat. The results, a meticulous folding solution with numbered storage pads and a step-by-step instructions, all supported onto a lifting board fitting neatly with a lidded archival box.
Tackling Tapestries
Custom storage for large textiles
Tapestries are often large and can be difficult to store efficiently, making organised and easily accessible storage essential for collections maintenance. A favourite project of the studio was to condition assess and create storage for a vast and significant collection of tapestries, creating suspended storage using stackable wooden cradles.
We provide custom storage solutions for textile collections, both large and small. Get in touch to learn more.
